1541 Oriflame Love Potion Review

Well, it is only fitting, now I have told you all about Oriflame. It is about time I tell you about one of their products, right? In a kind of strange turn of events, it is a perfume. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I got into perfumes. I was always a little bit against them, to be honest. I still think they are very overpriced! I mean if you have a shower and use shower gel why should you pay extra for perfume? Anyway, I found a few that I like that do not break the bank. I didn’t see the point in spending hundreds when you can get a decent one for less than £30.

I am going to let you in on my little tip. I try and be very strict when it comes to money. If I don’t NEED it, then I try to talk myself out of buying it. Now, I am a human so of course, I buy things I don’t need by I try to limit how many times I do it. I have sort of set a limit of £30, if something is going to be more than £30, I think about it before I buy it. If it is an item that I want and don’t necessarily need then I wait to buy it and if I have money left over at the end of the month then I will treat myself.

Truthfully, I only bought the mini travel one because it was on offer. Does anyone do that? If I am placing an order, I have a look at the sale section to see if I can find anything to try, that way you don’t pay full price and it doesn’t hurt as much if you don’t like the product. It was sort of weird that I ended up with this one. I was placing an order with Oriflame anyway so I always have a look at the offers, to see if there is something that will make a good present or that I have been wanting to try. I saw this cute little bottle of perfume on offer. I am not sure how much it was, less than £10. It was the travel-size version of Love Potion and using that little travel bottle was where my love began for this perfume.

It didn’t take me long to use up this 8ml of perfume. I was secretly hoping I wouldn’t like it so then I wouldn’t have to buy the full version. Does anyone else do that? Buy the smallest version of something hoping you don’t like it and don’t have to buy the bigger one. Every time I wore it my mum thought I was wearing Jean Paul Gaultier (expensive perfume), and that is one of the reasons I was so quick to buy the full version it also might have been on offer when I bought it. It is 50mls for £30. Jean Paul Gaultier is £70 or more for just 30mls.

I was hoping I could reuse the travel-sized one because it was such a nice little bottle, but I tried and couldn’t get it to work. If you could/can, please let me know how below. It is a shame because it was a nice bottle, and very luxurious. If I could reuse it, it wouldn’t have created much waste either.

I better start talking about the actual perfume, shouldn’t I? I do love it, it is one of those perfumes that you can wear to work during the day, you can also wear it for a meal, and an occasion like a birthday party etc. I guess you could call it versatile. Whenever I have been around people (not very often recently) but this is the perfume I have worn. I have started bringing it with me so people can try it for themselves.

On to the perfume. (about time right) I can confirm they got the name SPOT ON. I can see clearly why they called it ‘Love Potion’. The bottle says it all, it looks enchanting, and with the design, you could almost argue it does look a bit like a potion inside. (Which was probably the point). Overall, the bottle is beautiful. Have you seen it? The elegance, the romance, the mystical look to it. The red fading into black is also stunning, and for me, it symbolises going from daytime to night-time. That point as well, I have never seen anything like it.

Strangely, I did use to avoid red bottles when it came to perfumes, they always made me think of a date, a couple, boyfriends etc but I have just started to ignore the style and the scent and now I wear any perfume whenever I want. Just because the bottle is red, doesn’t mean you can’t wear it when you are in your fluffy socks, under a blanket, eating Chinese. It doesn’t bother me if it is a day perfume, a night perfume, or an everyday perfume. If I want to wear it, then I am going to spray that bottle you know. Who is with me?

This is currently the one I am using regularly, I have it sitting on my desk so whenever I have to pop out, I see it and spray it. I am not one to go looking for a spray, it must be easy to access if you want me to use it. Saying that is the case for most things. Unless it is within reach or visible, I tend to forget about it and never use it. I have been using this one now for about a month and I am about a third of the way through it, so it does last well.

Now on to the smell. It is an odd thing to be talking about isn’t it smells. There are so many different ones, foods, candles, fragrances, baking etc. What’s your favourite scent? I am a vanilla person. Pretty much all of the perfume and fragrances I own have vanilla, strawberry or orange involved. You could say this one is a bit out of the ordinary for me. It has a seductive, romantic, and quite enticing quality which is not usually my go-to but does make sense given the name. I have sprayed it at least five times trying to pinpoint the different scents in it. I would describe it as a bit spicy, which is great for a winter evening. It has a bit of a floral hint which is gorgeous. Don’t take my word for it but it also has a richness to it, almost like a creamy rich chocolate. I have heard it does have vanilla in it.

This perfume kind of paints a picture of a typical date, you know like you see in movies. A person turns up to pick you up with flowers (the floral side of the perfume), takes you to a posh restaurant for food (the spiciness of the perfume) and then you share the biggest dessert on the menu to finish the evening (the sweetness). If this was the idea behind the perfume, Oriflame you are a genius.

There are just two things I am not a huge fan of when it comes to this perfume. Any guesses? The packaging is quite bulky because of the bottle. You can recycle it though, so it is not the end of the world, just a shame there isn’t a way to cut down on the packaging. The second thing, if you have acrylic nails on, get your mum, your friend, or your boyfriend, just get someone else to open it. It is on their tight. I broke a nail getting it open (but it was worth it). I just leave the lid off now because it is quicker and easier.

Overall, I do love this product. My mum steals it when she wants to wear it and it is a great price. To be mistaken for a perfume that is £70 or more is pretty impressive and you can pick it up for £30 (or less if it is on offer). I would highly recommend it; it would make a great gift because they do a matching body moisturiser. I plan on buying another one as to gift as well. Let me know in the comments below if you have ever tried this or if you wish to try it because I am happy to get that arranged for you.
