As always, I need to give you a pretty rubbish excuse as to why I bought this item right? I don’t know why I started trying to explain and find a good reason as to why I purchased an item. Anyway, this was a new product that was brought out so I figured I would give it a go. It was as simple as that. Crazy I know. I did get a good price when I first bought it. I believe it was 95p for 1. Which is close to the one-use masks you buy in Boots or Superdrug or anywhere, so I am not mad about the offer price. The full price isn’t awful, but it isn’t the cheapest one you can find. It is £2 if you don’t catch it on offer.
If you couldn’t tell from the title, it is an Oriflame product. I have become quite a fan of their products. Like most brands within Oriflame products, they have different lines and collections. This face mask is part of the Pure Skin line. This is a bit like an Oriflame version of Clean and Clear, all their products are aimed toward acne-prone skin and treating acne. I have tried two or three other products from their line, but I think this one might be my favourite so far.
This is a two-step mask. I quite like a two-step product, for some reason, it feels luxurious. Don’t you think? In the first step, you apply the warming (steam) half which claims to soften dirt and oil to unclog those pores. After that one, you use the second half straight away. It is the cooling half which claims to deeply cleanse and absorb impurities. For me, the description makes it the ideal face mask. It is said to be spa-inspired which makes sense as steam is very much a spa-type treatment.
There are two ingredients which they have highlighted, and I do believe they deserve to be highlighted, it is Salicylic Acid and Kaolin Clay, now I am in no way a skin expert but I have heard great things about these two ingredients. Salicylic acid is good for oily skin I believe, it exfoliates and helps with bacteria sitting on your skin during your everyday life. It is one I hear a lot of skincare specialists talk about and I am not going to lie but that is the only reason I know what the ingredient is. The next ingredient is Kaolin clay, it is gentle and natural, who doesn’t love a gentle and natural ingredient, can’t go wrong.
Another of the ingredients is a Noni Berry, have you heard of it? Nope, me either. A very posh superfruit, it has skills of healing and rejuvenating. It is in the first half of the mask (steam half) and it helps to exfoliate and regulate sebum production (sebum is skin oil I think). In the second half of the mask Noni Berry conditions the skin, seems pleasant enough, right? I have also heard good things about Glycerine, it is hydrating I believe.
I like the idea of the steam and the cooling; I must admit, the 3 or 4 that I have used. I don’t notice the steaming one as much as the cooling one. You kinda have to be rubbing it on the skin to feel the warmth of it. You can feel it under your nose when you breathe on it. The warming part will be good for your blood circulation (mine is RUBBISH!).
It is a typical mask, they recommend cleansing your face, and massaging step one you’re your skin avoiding the eye area (duh), leave this one on for five minutes but I can’t say I have timed it, rinse step it off and pat your skin lightly. For the second step apply the cooling half again, don’t be putting it in your eyes (it will sting), leave this one on for fifteen minutes, rinse with cold water, pat dry and get your skincare out. It recommends doing it 1-3 times a week. Say you use it twice a week for a month, that is at least 8 of the masks which means you are spending £16 a month on face masks. (Told ya it’s an expensive way to use masks).
Going back to what I think of the product in using it, the design is well done, I like that the packaging coincides with the theme of each half, the steam half is red signifying hot, and the cooling half is blue signifying cold. I prefer to divide them using the perforated middle because it is easier to get the product out. One thing I am not a fan of in this type of packaging is the opening process. I am rubbish at opening them. I have to plan if I want to use a product in this type of packaging and I put a pair of scissors in the bathroom so I can open it easily.
I currently don’t have an exfoliating wash which I know is awful, but this has been doing me so many favours as it has exfoliating properties. I love a mask that exfoliations, saves time when you can do two things with one hit and there is less trauma to your skin as you are only rubbing in one product instead of two or three in this case.
Just a bit of a side note, if you are using this product 3 times a week, I would personally avoid exfoliating separately as well. That might be overkill. If you have used this product, let me know what you liked about it and which half is your favourite. Overall, I prefer the steam half because it is not cold, and I find it more relaxing. The cooling half is refreshing more than relaxing. Also, I am not a fan of coldness. I am often referred to as a lizard because I like to be warm. I get very grumpy when I am cold.
To be honest, I haven’t seen a huge difference in my skin but that is more my fault. I have not been using it once a week, probably not even once a month. I do like the feel of my skin once I have used it though. My skin also doesn’t mind it, I have sensitive skin, but it picks when it wants to be sensitive. I can wear lots of makeup, I can use heavy clay masks and now and then it decides to reject one at random. I am going to continue to use it as I have a few left-over still.
I do recommend giving this one a go. It is gentle but effective from what I can tell. I will probably stick to once a week if I was going to use it regularly. It would make a nice gift as it is unlike anything else, I have seen on the market. I have left a link below if you would like to shop for this item, alternatively, you can contact me either in the comments or via my contact me page and we can arrange a mask or two.
