This post has been sitting and waiting for me to write it for a good couple of weeks. I am rubbish with the knowledge behind hair products. I generally focus on skincare and making. I have never been good when it comes to hair, so I put the hair posts off. Anyway, we are here, how are you doing? Did you have a good weekend? In the UK we are getting closer to a bit more freedom, but I haven’t got my hopes up. As you might know, I was very clever and broke my ankle at the end of last year, so I haven’t been able to drive this year at all!
Enough about me, you didn’t come here to hear about my life you came here for first impressions, am I right or am I right? If you haven’t come here for first impressions you might be in the wrong back, so click back and have a little look around. I am going, to be honest; I was super excited to try this product, well these products. I had high hopes (is that song stuck in your head now?) (had to have high, high hopes for a living). The packaging is BEAUTIFUL, don’t you think?
I love the concept behind the packaging. If you haven’t seen my previous post on this range from Oriflame. The aim of the game with this line is the idea of transparency. They have incorporated some of the ingredients and their periodic symbols and used them in the labels/packaging. If that’s not clever, I am not sure what you could call it. The colours work so well together as well.
Overall, the packaging is trendy, attractive, kind of transparent and suits the range very well. It is the packaging that sold me on the range. It just looks very natural and earthy. I was very excited about the pump feature on the shampoo bottle, Is anyone else a sucker for that? I have a dodgy wrist which makes it hard for me to do things like getting products out of a bottle, opening bottles, carrying certain items, lifting bottles etc. When there is a pump, it makes life so much easier for me. I am in the process of hunting down products with pumps included. Apart from the packaging, which if you can’t tell, I do LOVE the packaging. But putting the labels and the packaging aside, when it comes to the actual product, I have mixed feelings straight off the bat. I have only used the product twice so remember to do your research and try it out for yourself.
I will say for the price, I would have liked a bigger product. They are £11 each for 250mls of shampoo and 150ml of conditioner. That’s £22 for 400ml! That’s not cheap. You can get 1600ml for £10 in Boots, or less if there is a deal or you find yourself in savers. So straight away the price is against the product. I am not one to spend a lot of money on one product. I just don’t see the point in spending £22 on a product that goes down the drain, ya know.
Okay, can we just chat about the pump? I was super excited about it if you couldn’t tell. So, hair wash day arrives, I get all the bits together and go to the bathroom. I get my hair wet… and then am disappointed. When I went to get the shampoo out of the bottle, the smallest amount of product came out! Me, I have super long hair, so I need a good bit of shampoo I end up having to pump about 6 or 7 times to get the amount I need out of the bottle which defeats the object of it being easier to use. I was slightly tempted to just pull the pump out and tip it up, but I was good, and I didn’t. My roots get quite oily quite quickly, so I do always try and make sure I am breaking up the oil at the roots when I do a wash. I am not sure if the amount one pump gives you is the amount you are meant to use but it didn’t even do a quarter of my hair.
I had to use 3 or 4 pumps for my scalp and then 5-6 pumps to get all the ends (my hair is quite long). Overall, the pump didn’t win it for me. The conditioner was a lot easier to get out of the bottle but there isn’t a lot of product. Due to the length of my hair, the ends are quite dry so I do try and soak my hair in conditioner and a mask (when I can be bothered).
Shall we move on to the actual product now? I mean, I think we have discussed the packaging enough now don’t you think? (Maybe even too much). After all, the product or products is what you came here to read about, am I right? Once you get the amount of product you need out of the bottle the shampoo is a pearly white colour, the scent is very subtle, and got a bit of a natural scent to it, something you would expect in a spa. I am not a fan of shampoo or conditioner where the scent hits you like a tonne of bricks.
My hair felt very clean after using these products. Have you ever gone to squeeze the excess water out and your hair squeaked? So, it is squeaky clean? I do tend to test each time I wash my hair if it squeaks or not. Not sure why. My hair did feel very clean, I can’t say it felt all that soft, to be honest. My hair isn’t super soft in general, it never has been. It was a little shiny. The conditioner was a nice consistency, not too thick but not too thin. My hair did dry a little less frizzy which was nice. My hair chops and changes, sometimes it is wavy, sometimes it is curly, and sometimes it is just a frizz ball.
It did dry quite straight after using these products. Which I am a fan of. I will say it was about the same level of knotty and tangled but that is not surprising. My hair gets tangles and knots if I turn around slowly ha. As with most reviews, I try not to use many products with them so I can see the benefits and the not-so-fun parts of the product. The only product I used with these two was a bit of argan oil through the ends of my hair. Oh, I didn’t mention this, but the shampoo lathers up beautifully once you have got it out of the bottle. I love a shampoo that gives a good lather and feels like it is doing something that way.
So, the last thing to discuss is my overall ratings. I do like the product. I would use it again. I continue using the product until it is all used up. I am not sold on the pump. I do think that would put me off it as it doesn’t make it easier to use. The price is a little out of my range for an everyday-use product. My current everyday default costs £5 for the pair (which are 500mls each). These are more than £20 for the two and a lot less product. If I wanted to treat myself, I might repurchase, but I am not convinced it is my new default.
