579 Makeup Empties September 2018 (Part 3B)

What you have been waiting for, is the final part, part 3B to this series of empties. If you haven’t read the others go back and check them out, I will leave the links just below, you never know what you might find.

If you have already read part 3A you will know there were too many products to tell you about so this is part B with the final 7 items.

Here are the items I will be talking about today, there are 15 items in total:

  • Bourjois Mascara – Volume Reveal

  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Primer

  • Maybelline Baby Skin Primer

  • Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

  • L’Oréal Extra Volume Waterproof Mascara

  • L’Oréal Infallible 24h Matte Powder

  • L’Oréal Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation

I picked up this one in 3 for 2 offers. I didn’t have a desire to get this I just picked it up because of the offer which is exactly what the offer means to do so yes, I fell into the trap. I try to avoid these traps unless there are at least 2 items that I want to try unless it is a product I do like and getting two is worth it for later. The biggest tip I want to give you when it comes to a 3 for 2, is to pick items at roughly the same price. There is no point in buying a £20 foundation and then getting a couple of £2 products, you are only going to save £2. Get the more expensive products so the savings is worth it.

I don’t think this was the right one for me. I liked the result, and it did look nice at the end, but I found my eyes were itchy and stinging so maybe I was reacting to it. I don’t know it could have been a coincidence it just seemed around the time I started using this product I was having trouble with my eyes. There was nothing wrong with the product, it was my eyes being sensitive to it so please do give it a go. Right now, I am using others to see if I get the same reaction, I also wanted to try it in the winter as there is a chance it was hay fever affecting my eyes, not the mascara.

This product is on the pricey side of mascaras unless you want to pay a designer price. It is £10.99 in Superdrug.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Primer

Again, I got this in an offer, I am not sure how much I ended up paying for it. I did want to give this a go at some point, but I wasn’t racing to the shop to pick it up. To be honest, the price is £9.99, you don’t get a lot of products. I can’t see how much is in the product, but my guess is 20ml maybe 30ml at a push. I used this in the hopes my makeup would last a little longer than it usually did. I followed the instructions and applied the product mainly in my oily area also known as T-Zone. I don’t dislike this product, it did help to keep the skin matte as opposed to oily, but I couldn’t see any improvement in the length of time the foundation remains on your skin. At the same time, I don’t love it. I would use it again, but it isn’t a product that is going to be a staple in my everyday make-up routine. If you would like to get your hands on this primer head to your local Boots or Superdrug.

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer

I got this when it first came out a couple of years ago, I used it a couple of times and wasn’t a fan, so I gave it to my cousin. Something made me try it again. This time I didn’t hate it, I think I was expecting miracles the first time I used it and when the delivery wasn’t there, I gave up on the product straight away. It claims to erase pores, I am not convinced that it does cover them successfully but minimises, I will give them that. I would say it does extend the staying power by a smidge but not hours. You can still see a breakdown of the makeup as you usually would if anything it does blend a little better when you touch it up. So far, my use of primers has not been positive which has put me off a little. I will find one I like eventually but for now, I will use touch things up when I can be bothered.

If you would like to try this product, head to your local Maybelline carrier, and pick one up. If you are picking it up in Superdrug, you can get it for £7.99.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Great Lash has been my go-to mascara product for years, I don’t remember what I used before this one, I have used other ones in between because I had them in my collection or they were on offer, but I always go back to this one. I haven’t yet found one that I prefer over this product. It travels well as it is such a small package, you can spot it easily in your bag, but it isn’t an overpowering obnoxious colour. You can find it in a couple of shades which I appreciate. I am pale if you didn’t know already, often brown mascara appears softer on a pale person, but I prefer the deep deep blacks because I tend to do quite a heavy eye makeup look.

I do not have any plans to stop using this or to find a new product. I will repurchase this product I have already, and I am using it. This is the type of product I will grab a new one because the current one is getting a bit old. They tend to get old and dry out before the product runs out. Typically, because it is applied to your eyes it is good practice to purchase a new one everything now and then anyway. The tube is quite small, but I have never had an issue with how long you can keep the product, I can’t say it has ever started to run out shortly after purchase. It isn’t a bad price either which is a huge bonus at only £5.99 it is great quality for such as small price.

For me I like the small brush on this one, I haven’t ever been able to work well with the large wands, I believe this is because I have small eyes which makes it difficult to coat the lashes towards the corners. Even with this one, it can be tricky, you know when you are having a bad makeup day. It just doesn’t go the way you planned. Yep, on those days, even this one with a tiny wand ends up being plastered on my eyelids.

L’Oréal Extra Volume Waterproof Mascara

Someone bought this for me as a gift. I like it when people buy makeup for me because it is usually things, I wouldn’t buy for myself. As a result, you use and try items you wouldn’t normally choose to try, in turn, you could end up loving something you would never have even thought about.

I didn’t have any expectations for this because I had never used L’Oréal mascara before, so it was a blank canvas. I’m not going to lie; I didn’t hate it. It wasn’t my favourite; it clumped a little bit which made me hate it a little but most days it was good. I liked the overall look. I was gutted to discover that this mascara has been discontinued and I messaged L’Oréal on Facebook to ask, and they haven’t made a replacement for this mascara.

If I could buy this again, maybe not straight away because I have a few I want to use up, but I would have recommended and used this again if I had the chance. If you have used this and you have found a similar one, let me know because I wouldn’t mind using this one again.

L’Oréal Infallible 24h Matte Powder

Hmm, what to say about pressed powder? I don’t have a favourite powder, it either sets or not and I haven’t come across one that didn’t set my makeup so when I have run out, I just grab whichever one is on offer or one that catches my eye in the shop. This happened to be the one at the time of purchase. I liked this one, I liked that it had a compartment for a sponge at the bottom which kept it clean and stopped you from losing it. It also took up less space in your bag as you didn’t need to bring a brush, you could slip this in your pocket, and you would be good to go.

I would repurchase this next time I required a powder, I am currently using the Bourjois one, once that has been used up, I will maybe go straight for this unless there is another one on offer. To get your hands on this, it is £5.99 which is not bad, but I did think this one didn’t last very long. I don’t know if that was because there is a small amount of product or that I did enjoy the product, so I was using it a lot.

L’Oréal Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation

My main complaint about this product is the shades, even the lightest shade was too dark for me which was a real shame because I loved the formula and the finish it left on the skin. I wish foundations would go light enough for me. I know a lot of foundations do not cater for darker skin, but they also do not cater for pale skin unless you want to spend £30 or more which is out of my price range.

I would 100% repurchase this if it was light enough but sadly, I am unable to use this product because it is too dark. My skin is almost transparent, that is how pale I am so please if you suffer the same problem, let me know what foundation you are using it would be so appreciated. As a makeup artist, people expect me to know, but you need spare cash to find the perfect high-end foundation for your shade and that is something I do not have.

I have not found one that is perfect without me adding white to it to make it pale and the truth is I don’t have time to be mixing up foundations in the morning I would love to just have one in a bottle that I can use. Maybe I should get an empty bottle and make my own for the white and a foundation. Would that work?
