Once I had finished writing this post, I realised it was a bit too long, so I thought the best thing to do so I won’t bore you is to split it in two. There are 15 items in total so I will start with 8 products and the 7 will follow next week.
FASH Make-Up Brush – Powder Brush
Rimmel London Hide the Blemish Concealer
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
Real Techniques Sponge
No 7 Loose Setting Powder
Sunkissed Eye Shadow Palette
Barry M Ready Set Loose Setting Powder
Kryolan Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Now you know what is included in today’s post, here is each item in a bit more detail, it is almost like short reviews.
FASH Make-Up Brush – Powder Brush
This item I am a little disappointed, it didn’t take long for this one to start losing its bristles. I believe the name of the brand is FASH Cosmetics. They weren’t very expensive; it was maybe £25 if that. I had a look online to see if I can find them to link for you because they were a good deal. I got them as a set of 22. I like the brushes; I don’t love them. They did want what I wanted them to do, it was just to keep the more expensive brushes I had in better condition as I knew I was planning to do a makeup course and brushes would be borrowed or used by others and I didn’t care as much if one of these went missing or got ruined.
I kept this brush in my bag for touch-ups or if I am looking oily. Turns out, it didn’t travel well, or it was just not made well. Either way, the bristles started falling out which was driving me up the wall. I kept it until I found another one to use in its place. It worked for touch-ups, but I don’t think I would use it daily for my makeup.
Rimmel London Hide the Blemish Concealer
This could be the first concealer I ever used. I am not sure, but I believe this is the first one I ever bought. Every now and I then I pick one up to see if I still like it and just to have it as a spare, particularly when there is a deal on because I know I can use this, and I am not wasting any money by picking this one up. I get the lightest shade available I believe it is called ivory, but I may be wrong.
The application is quick and easy as you can apply it straight to your face which is not the best in the hygiene area but if it is only me using it, I am relatively safe. If you are doing this, try to avoid applying it to any problem areas or active blemishes. I will repurchase this, probably not straight away because I have a couple of other concealers to use up. I just had a look online for them and it appears they have updated the packaging. I must have gotten the last two of the old packaging. You can pick these up for £3.99 each from Superdrug. The shade is not the perfect match but once blended you really cannot tell much. If you would like to purchase this item head on over to Superdrug.
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
Well, if you don’t know about this product, I am pretty sure you have been living under a rock or somewhere isolated because there is not one channel on YouTube that has not mentioned this once or twice. The shade I have used up is 01 Fair, but they have recently brought out an even lighter shade which I think is 0 Extra Fair, which I am currently using.
Me, I think having both is best for me because the 0 shade is a bit too light for blemishes around my face but just right underneath my eyes. I will be repurchasing this and I would highly recommend this if you haven’t used it already. I will be getting another one but I am waiting for my current one to be used up so I can get both at the same time. Things running out at a different time is irritating for example shampoo and conditions. It is not the end of the world because I am aware of the larger problems in the world right now. These aren’t a bad price either for the quality they are, I have never had an issue with these. It covers most blemishes, it didn’t last 24 hours but it does last a good amount of time with little to no touch-ups. You can pick these up for £4.19 from your local Superdrug.
Real Techniques Sponge
I swear by these, although the last couple hasn’t lasted if my first one, I have gone through 3 or 4 now which is okay but not ideal. They aren’t expensive, but they aren’t cheap. If I am on number 5 that means I have spent over £25 on them which is a lot to spend on a sponge when you think about the basics of what it is.
Anyway, I don’t mind spending the cash, but I would like them to last a bit longer than they have been lasting. Maybe I am being too rough with them or the cleaner I am using wasn’t very good. I have put myself on a ban from buying another one this year unless it goes mouldy, I do like to keep one for my every day and one that I use for special events such as parties. I am not sure why, but I like to use new products when it is for an occasion, it seems more special and the right time to use them.
These are usually £5.99 each but I try to get them in the set of two because it is cost-effective. They have now got a huge one which I did try but I didn’t like because I couldn’t get it to go the soft bouncy consistency, so it felt harsh on my skin, but I think that is my fault, it isn’t a bad product just not for me. To pick up the two as a set you save just under £2 as you can get two in boots for £9.99. Ever since I used these, I haven’t been able to get a nice finish with a makeup brush. It does encourage you to replace it every 1-3 months which I think is a little excessive but better to be safe than sorry. Keep an eye on it, if you start to see discolouration or it develops an odour, then it is time to treat yourself to a new one. If you can see there is nothing wrong with it, and you have been cleaning it well then keep it a little longer. Always Use your discretion if you are not sure then play it safe.
No 7 Loose Setting Powder
I discovered this item about two years ago, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it because I had never been a huge fan of No. 7. My friend and I put our things together and got a free item as it was 3 for 2. I’m sort of swearing by this powder now. I haven’t used anything different since, other than the ones I already had and wanted to use up, but this is something I have repurchased, and I will repurchase. I wouldn’t mind trying a high-end one to see if I can tell a difference, but every time I go to purchase one, I struggle to justify spending £20 or more on a powder. If you know the one that is worth it, then please do let me know. It is £10.50 from Boots. I don’t think you can get it anywhere other than Boots because No.7 is a Boots brand.
My only issue with loose powder is I can’t seem to keep it in the pot, I always get covered it in and it gets on my clothes while applying. I know it is never going to be a clean product because it is a fine powder but if there are any tricks to avoid wasting any, please let me know. I have repurchased, and I will continue to do so, I wouldn’t mind trying another one in between because I have been using this for a while and I love to mix it up, but I do not doubt thinking I won’t be back to this one in the long run. It is not the cheapest product, but it is also not the most expensive and it lasts a good amount of time because it is such a large pot. It comes in 4 shades, and of course, I get the lightest as always. To pick this up head to your local Boots.
Sunkissed Eye Shadow Palette
I don’t ever remember purchasing this but as you can see from the state of the palette is in, it is an old product. I am not sure what I paid for it or where I got it. It was also a gift I believe. I didn’t use it very often. I only use a couple of shades and because of their age, I decided it was time to get rid of them.
As you can probably tell I didn’t use most of it which is a shame as it puts the product down as a miss. This would be great for someone who is just starting to use makeup, a beginner if you will or someone who is not fussed about applying a certain makeup. It would be a great little add-on to a gift. I had a little nose online to see if I could see it anywhere, I found it online, but I didn’t recognise any of the shops, so I concluded it was a present. I couldn’t find it in stock anywhere so I think it may have been discontinued but I have had it for a couple of years.
It wasn’t a staple, but it also wasn’t completely hated. I will not be repurchasing this product and it is unfortunate, but I won’t be able to point you in the right direction to pick it up for yourself because I couldn’t find it available anywhere. If you google the name, it comes up, but it is all sold out so if you do want to check it out maybe keep a bookmark of the name and search it now and then you never know what you are going to find on a random search at a random time. Good luck.
Barry M Ready Set Loose Setting Powder
So, this is one of the powders I used in between the No 7 ones, purely because I was going away for the weekend and No 7 one is not very travelling friendly. I didn’t love this one, the packaging was difficult to open and when you did get it open you risked the powder going everywhere. This could be down to me; it could be that I am weak or that I didn’t want to break a nail, but I don’t think I would get this again purely because I struggled to open it.
The actual product I did like which is a shame. I prefer a white powder because you know it is going to cover any shine, set your base and not add any colour which could be an issue if your foundation isn’t a good match, adding a coloured powder tends to alter the colour a bit. That is the No 7’s only downfall, I truly wish they did a translucent or white shade. The Barry M one is a better and lower price but it is smaller so you may get less product which sucks. I would recommend giving it a go because you will likely not have any issues opening the product as I did, and if you know a trick to open powder pots, please I am all ears.
You can get this product for £5.99 from Boots or Superdrug. Here is a like to pick it up from Superdrug online. Keep it safe and let me know if you get around to trying it out, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the packaging, it looks good, but I can’t open it.
Kryolan Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Now, this product came in a kit I got when I did the makeup course in 2014, have to say not a huge fan. It was white, and it was finely milled which sets it up to be a great product, but I can honestly say I did not see a huge miracle. It was just a regular setting powder, nothing fancy and no amazing results so for the price, it is not worth it. If a powder is more than £10, I expect good things, not average things. I used it up and for some reason left it in my makeup collection. I like to keep a couple of bits around to remind me to think about if I want to repurchase or if I don’t. If I am unsure, I leave them in their collection so that when I go looking for a product, I can see it and it makes me think about if I liked it, how much I liked it, whether was it worth it etc.
Currently, I don’t think I am going to be repurchasing this product, a lot of my reasons is the price and that it is not readily available in my areas. I hate buying things online, I like to see what I am buying, see the quality and the colour. I don’t think I have bought any makeup online for that reason. The nearest location I can buy this is London, and although I do live close to London, it would be a long journey to get this unless I ordered online.
I would like to try this product again so maybe when I am in London, I will go check this out again and decide if I want to pay the price. It is £12.50 but that would be £20 including the travel or just under for delivery. If you would like to give this one a go.
