June 2018 Makeup Haul - Part One
Now, I am trying to use up some of the makeup products I have and get it all updated, some of the things I have are just old and nasty now. I seem to have a real interest in lipsticks lately as well, so I have picked up a few, one of which has a funny story behind it. However, now I have used bits up I am on the hunt for new things to try. Here are some of the makeup items that I have picked up.
I was going to put it all into one post but once I had written it all I realised it was a bit long, so I split it into two lots. Stay tuned for part two, coming soon.
I just want to put a small disclaimer out there, I did not buy all of this, quite a few of the bits here came in a buy one get one free deal or as gifts if you spent a certain amount. You will be surprised how much money you can save if you look at the deal before placing your order. I made an order a few weeks ago and I had to spend a further £5 and I would get 5 free Clinique samples. Instead of buying random bits, I stocked up on things I know I would be using.
These are the items I picked up
L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation
L’Oréal Infallible 24-Hour Foundation – 015
L’Oréal True Match Highlight
L’Oréal Infallible 24h Matte Powder
Barry M Ready Set Loose Setting Powder
Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation In 1n0 Porcelain
Real Techniques Base Sponge
MaXfactor Lipfinity Lip Colour In 160 Iced
The first four items I chose to pick up were from L’Oréal. I wasn’t always a fan of this brand, I never used to like the colours and it wasn’t very versatile but over the recent months, I have grown to like L’Oréal. I have found that they are a great brand for those of us with very pale skin. Shall we get on with the items I bought from L’Oréal?
L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation
This item is a repurchase for me, I have used it previously but not since the packaging has changed. Does anyone else remember the old chunky bottle? So, why did I pick up this item you ask? Well, I was looking for a new foundation because the foundation I was using is a little heavy for everyday use. I was using the Revlon Photoready or the Revlon Colourstay which are great foundations to use but after a couple of months, it became a bit too heavy for me to use every day. I still use those foundations now and then or for special occasions such as birthdays or just going for dinner. I do love these foundations just not for every day. On that note, I decided to head to the shop and pick up a couple of foundations to try out.
On my trip, I grabbed this one among a couple of others to get a few to try it out. I remembered this one to be very light and easy to apply so I thought this would be a great one to try. Also, I like how light the makeup goes in shades. I have started using this item so look out for a review coming soon.
I like the packaging, the price is pretty much in the middle of the board, not too expensive but not the cheapest in the market. I think they have renamed their shades as well. I can’t remember what I was previously but, in my experience, I do not sway away from anything but the first shade on the rack. So, for me, I picked up 1. C Rose Ivory out of the 27 shades available. One bottle of this foundation is £9.99. I think this is going to be a great everyday product. If you would like to get your hands on this product head to your local Boots.
L’Oréal Infallible 24-Hour Foundation – 015
Yes, I did pick up another foundation. I was on the hunt for another everyday foundation so I took advantage of the deals and grabbed as much as I could. This one I picked up for the matte factor of the product. I have quite oily skin, I tend to have to re-powder, I have come to accept the fact that my nose will probably be shiny.
I was hoping to use this product and not have to deal with that. I will also be writing a review when I get around to using this item. Keep your eyes peeled as I will be coming soon. I wasn’t a huge fan of the shade range of this one as there are currently only 8 shades, it seems a little limited. I would hope that they will introduce more shades shortly.
Again, I picked up the lightest shade available in the shop, I don’t know if a lighter shade is available online. I hate ordering foundations online because you can’t see the shade. It is easy to use a light foundation and make it work for you but if you get a shade that is too dark it is hard to make it work. I am excited to try this one; I hope this is the right shade. I bought the 015 Porcelain. This one has a higher price of £10.99 compared to the above foundation so there is a little competition there.
L’Oréal True Match Highlight
Now highlighting for someone of my paleness can be a headache. It either doesn’t highlight or it is overpowering. Often it is hard to find a highlight that is light enough to do its job unless there is some shimmer in it. I tend to keep contouring and highlighting to the minimum because it just doesn’t work when it comes to me.
I must buy a pure white foundation to mix with many of the foundations that I use because they don’t supply a light enough shade. However, now, and then I like to try something and just hope I find the right item. So far, I haven’t found one that I love. I do plan to get my hands on the hula bronzer from Benefit but as it is a little pricey, I am waiting. As it doesn’t necessarily work, I am a bit reluctant to spend over £20 on one product. Right back to L’Oréal, I love the look of this product, the packaging is great. I like that it mixes white, blue and a pinkish colour. It is probably the best idea for me because the blue highlight is the best for pale skin.
I am not a huge fan of the price; it seems a bit pricey for a little highlighter. It is £8.99 but you do get a good amount of product in there. I don’t believe that there is another highlighter like this which is amazing. It is unique, it is innovative, it is just beautiful and exactly what I like about highlighter.
I am excited to try this one out, have I finally found the highlight for me? Wish me luck, if you would like to try this product out head to your local Superdrug or Boots.
L’Oréal Infallible 24h Matte Powder
This one I will be honest, I only picked this up because I was getting a couple of bits from L’Oréal, there was nothing that drew me towards this item. There was also nothing wrong with this product, nothing stood out to tell me that I should not buy this product. It was neutral; I like a makeup product to stand out from the rest of the market that is how they are going to sell.
However, I did pick this product up; I always like to try brands together with their products because technically they should be made to work well together. When I buy a foundation, I try the powder with the foundation at some point. I don’t always get the powder straight away because I don’t like to pile up products to be used.
I like that this product came with a sponge underneath, this makes it the perfect travel product. It is secure packaging; it doesn’t feel like it is going to fall apart with a small tap at the bottom of your bag. I had a quick look online to see how many shades this product comes in and right now it is just three which is a little disappointing considering they have a foundation that comes in 27 shades. I would hope they had at least 6 or 7 shades in this one. The price is good on this one, you don’t get a lot of products compared to others, but it is decent quality packaging so great to pop in your bag for a top-up throughout the day.
Barry M Ready Set Loose Setting Powder
This item I picked up for a weekend away. The powder I was using was bulky and I wanted a smaller one to put in my overnight bag. If I love an item but it is big a bulking, it is very unfortunate because I need ones that I can pop in an overnight bag quite often. It isn’t the end of the world but if it is small and easily popped into a crowded makeup back then I am 100% happy with the product. I just went to my local boots and pick the loose translucent powder in the smallest pot. It happened to be this great one.
I liked that this powder was white, the slightly coloured ones do look different on the skin, being as pale as I am, the paler the better when it comes to powder. I am going to try it out before I put it in my bag that is one of my worst nightmares is getting to my destination and finding out it is broken or doesn’t work very well. There is a slight chance that you will be allergic to the item as well so I would always test that before you take it on holiday with you. The last thing you want to do is end up making doctors or hospital trips while you are away.
I will let you know what I like once I have used this. In the meantime, if you would like to try this item out, please go to your local Boots or Superdrug. Anywhere that sells Barry M Makeup should have this item, or if you would like to order the item online for £5.99 from Boots.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation In 1N0 Porcelain
Now, this item I bought because I am on the hunt for a foundation that looks nice with my skin and is the correct shade. If you didn’t know already, I am a very pale person, so I have trouble looking for a shade that works for me. Many people pointed me in the direction of Estee Lauder for being the best makeup for my skin tone. I didn’t exactly pick this item out, I went to a John Lewis and asked about the foundation at the counter and the shade matched me and that was that.
I am very excited to try this one out; I have heard good things but never had the opportunity to give it a go until now. I have yet to find a foundation that I will fall in love with so perhaps this will be the one. I like how the more expensive foundations look and feel, they have lovely packaging, and I haven’t run into one that I didn’t like yet. I have only tried a couple of expensive ones. I think if you are going to spend money on anything makeup-up-related or splash out on your foundation, you need to start with a good base. If your base is good, everything else will tie in well or better than it would have done without the decent base.
Keep your eyes open as I will be doing a review once I have got to use this a few times. I always find you must use foundations for a week or so to find out the most effective way of using them and what products and equipment work best with them. I tend to stand by my real technique’s beauty sponge. I haven’t tried a brush for years now, I don’t like the way it looks with brushes now. If you would like to try this one out, click the link below or head to your local John Lewis. This one cost me £30.15. I will admit that it is a little pricey but this one I have been told to use sparingly so it should last you quite well. It comes in 33 shades as well which excites me. When a foundation comes in a good range of shades, you know the brand knows what they are doing.
Real Techniques Base Sponge
I don’t know how long this big sponge has been out, but I have only just discovered it. I am not sure how it will work for me; I think it is going to be big but I bought it to find out. If it blends quicker then it could save a minute or two in the morning. Also, you can never have too many sponges because I am lazy and don’t wash my sponge every day, which I do recommend you do.
I have always been a fan of the real technique’s sponges in general, so I am looking forward to trying this one out. I don’t know if this is the point of the colour, but I particularly like it because you can see it straight away in your makeup bag, you don’t have to go looking for it. I hate it when you are struggling to find items.
I don’t think I paid the full price for it as it came as part of a deal but the price for it on the Real Techniques website is £6.57. If you would like to pick one up, click this link or you could head down to your local beauty shop. I haven’t used it yet because I am probably going to throw my current one out at the end of the week and start afresh.
MaXfactor Lipfinity Lip Colour In 160 Iced
The last thing I bought this time was liquid lipstick. I haven’t always been interested in these; it is only this year that I got interested. I have always wanted to try the MaXfactor ones. I like the lipsticks that come with the gloss you put on top; I don’t know why but it seems luxurious. I picked this colour because it was a safe nude to start with; I hoped I was going to like this colour.
I think I will prefer the liquid lips that stay on, I hate having to reapply throughout the day. Quite often I won’t reapply if it comes off it comes off. I don’t spend time reapplying makeup. I don’t know if you have noticed but any makeup that has gold in the packaging tends to be on the expensive side of makeup for the general store.
Have you tried one of the lipsticks? I haven’t until now, I am excited to try this. It has the potential to be my new favourite. It comes in 14 different shades, so you have a choice range to choose from.
