I have been trying to use bits up lately to create more space and eliminate the build-up of multiples of everything. I have said it many times before, but I am trying to reduce the number of things I have and trying to live on the minimalist side. I don’t think I will ever go completely minimalistic (mainly because I think to have things on hand so I would fail miserably) but when you are running out of space in your wardrobe, shelves etc you know it is time to stop stocking up and get through most of them.
Anyway, while trying to use products up I have also run out of items that I need more of. I may have bought some eye shadow that I didn’t necessarily need but a girl can never have too much eye shadow, however, that is also something that I need to get through if I am being honest. What I am going to try to do is start wearing eye shadow more often, I tend to only wear it if am going to an event or party, I don’t want to go all out and ridiculous but just a little bit of colour on the lids is better than nothing.
Right, so here are the bits I bought:
Boots Brunette Dry Shampoo Refresh & Revitalise (x3)
Maybelline The Burgundy Bar Eye Shadow Palette
NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette – USP10 ASH
NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette – USP02 Cool Neutrals
NYX First Base Primer Spray
Boots Brunette Dry Shampoo Refresh & Revitalise (x3)
This product I do use quite often but I am not picky about the brand as I haven’t found one that doesn’t work for me. I have quite long hair so when it comes to washing my hair it takes a bit of time and uses up quite a bit of product. It is also good for your hair to let it be greasy for a day or two, natural oils replenish your hair instead of caking it in lotions and potions. I try to leave my hair alone as much as possible if I can leave it for up to 1 week using a little bit of dry shampoo where needed. Washing your hair too many causes oily hair because you wash away all the natural oils, so your body creates more to compensate. I just grab the one that is on offer when I come to buy more. This time it was the Boots dry shampoo on a 3-for-2 good deal. Even if it wasn’t on a deal, these are a good price so if I like them, I won’t be going back to the expensive brands. They are only £1.50 each, so I wouldn’t mind paying the full price.
Maybelline The Burgundy Bar Eye Shadow Palette
I confess that I didn’t need this, and I didn’t buy it to replace one that was running out. I am a girl and I wanted it, there is nothing wrong with purchasing something for yourself now and then. I have learnt recently that burgundy goes well with my skin tone/complexion. I thought this would be perfect for any occasion you can dress it down a bit for a quiet dinner or add a bit of the glitz for a party. One thing I wouldn’t have known but I think is a selling point, on the back of this palette it tells you which colours work well together and how to do different looks. I have only tried one so far, there is a range of quick and full-face looks. You can use 4 colours (quads), 3 colours (trios) and 2 colours (duos), depending on the look you want. Once I have used it a couple more times, I can give you a full review. Now for a palette, it’s not the cheapest at £11.99 but you get 12 shades so under £1 each.
You can pick this product up in many shops and online. It is shimmery and glittery so if you are looking for an everyday product, I would maybe look at a different one.
NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette - USP10 ASH & USP02 Cool Neutrals
I am not sure why I bought these, I didn’t need more eye shadow, but it will get used so no harm is done. There are a few of these palettes to choose from, the ash palette is quite a Smokey look with greys and browns with a pop of colour. If you know me, you will know I love the Smokey looks. The Cool Neutrals palette is self-explanatory, it is mostly everyday colours, perfect for transitions from work to a party, add a bit of glitter at the end of your shift and you would be good to go. I have done a few swatches; they have pleasantly pigmented, I thought being in the lower price range they might not be. I can’t wait until I can complete a look with this palette, but I haven’t had a chance yet. I have a feeling that I am going to like them.
NYX First Base Primer Spray
One thing I didn’t realise was it is quite a small bottle, I thought it was a bit bigger but that is my fault for not reading properly. I haven’t had the opportunity to use it, but I do plan to. I think the spray is a good idea, it will keep the product uncontaminated, quick, and easy to use. A primer is meant to increase the look of your makeup at the end of the day. They are typically not cheap, but for something that goes underneath and doesn’t add to the look, I don’t feel the need to splurge on them. I am slowly trying the different products when I see one on offer and working my way up to the expensive ones hoping to find a cheap one that works well. If I can find a primer that I like on the lower price spectrum I will use it. It is better to go from the lower-priced items because the more expensive ones are going to feel luxurious or should at least and going to a cheaper one there is going to be somewhat of a let-down.
