511 My Morning Routine

I get up quite late compared to the average time people get up for 9 starts, as I work around the corner from my house, so I don’t need to leave my house until 8:50. I am a person who sets about 6 alarms, so I do get up, I can’t just set one alarm and then get up. I have to wake up before I can get out of bed. I get up between 7:40 and 7:50. If I am really tired I can get out of bed at 8:00 but then I am rushing a bit too much.

The first thing I do is find my slippers, I cannot go anywhere without them. I have wooden flooring everywhere in my house apart from one room so cold feet are a given in my house. Once I have my slippers, my hair goes in a bun, I grab my dressing gown and head downstairs. I sometimes have my cat walking down the stairs with me and other times I have him in my arms, it depends. I put the kettle on, and while that is boiling I feed the cat and give him a few of treats (Dreamies). He is too cute, here I will enter a picture of him now. He is now 10, he can be a little ratbag, but I love him to pieces. His name is Tilly, and yes before you ask he is a boy. When we picked him up, we were told he was a girl so he was named Tilly, by the time we found out he was a boy he had learnt his name and was responding to it so we couldn’t change it.

Now Tilly is a very fussy cat and doesn’t eat many things. I like one of the most expensive cat foods, of course, my cat would only like the more expensive cat foods. He sometimes will eat the cheaper ones, but he mostly leaves them in his bowl until it is all dry and gross. He also always has a bowl of cat biscuits and a bowl of water all day, so if they need topping up that’s when I will do it.

Now, here there are two things I do and depending on the day I do one after the other, but they don’t have an exact order. I change which one I do first daily. If the kettle is not boiled yet, I run back upstairs and brush my teeth, wash my face, you know the general bathroom bits you do in the mornings. The toothpaste I am using now is the Oral B Glamourous White, the face wash I am using is the Clean and Clear exfoliating, and the other one I have is the Clean and Clear Cream Wash. If the kettle is ready I will make my cup of tea and sometimes get some sort of cold drink, water, milkshake, squash and if I haven’t I will then do my bathroom bits. If I do my bathroom bits first, then I think you can tell what I do next right?

If you are wondering I use Tetley tea bags, not for any reason other than that’s what my mum gave me so that’s what I am used to and they are not a bad price, I have two sugars (yes I know but I like my sugary tea) I don’t drink coffee so a sugary tea is all I got. Lastly, I add a bit of green milk (which is semi-skimmed). I am not bothered about what milk I use, it’s just what I have grown up using. My least favourite is the blue one, (full-fat milk) it is just a bit heavy for my liking, but I am not opposed to drinking it. If there is a tea bag and some sugar in there I am good.

Next, I move on to my skincare, I currently use Origins mostly. I have become a little obsessed with this brand. I use the Origins Super Spot Remover Blemish Treatment Gel, Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff and Origins Ginzing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturiser which I love by the way.

Then depending on the time, works out what sort of makeup look I go for. Usually, it is very basic and natural. If I have the time, I do light contouring, but I don’t worry too much if I am short on time or just can’t be bothered. My staple items are the foundation, concealer, eyebrows, and mascara. Anything else depends on the day, if I have time and if I can be bothered and what is going on at work. If a meeting or someone is coming into the office, I will maybe dress up a bit more. I try to keep it presentable but natural for work. I usually apply my mascara last which means it is wet for a few seconds. Before getting dressed and risking smudging my black mascara down my very pale face I will make my bed.

This gives me enough time to let my makeup settle, it makes the room appear clean and put together and gets my head in the right space. I prefer to come home after work to a clean room as I feel I can get on with my day and it is motivational to keep going. There isn’t any clutter and it is fresh for me. Am I the only one that feels this way? A clean workspace just feels productive. One of my friends once said to me “why do you put the cushions on your bed when all you’re going to do is take them off when you go back to bed?” I don’t know it is just the feeling. My room looks put together, it makes it different and it’s a luxury touch. It feels special, cosy and mine. Also, if you have friends over you have a cushion for everyone to lean on. Also, before you judge, yes, I do have teddies on my bed. I have five, but they all have a meaning and a memory behind them, they only really sit on my bed for the show, I don’t sit and cuddle them which there is nothing wrong with. They are just a memory for me.

Now is the time to get ready, I tend to just keep it comfortable. I don’t like outfits that you are constantly fixing and adjusting and must sit, walk or do anything a certain way. Skirts or dresses that I am constantly pulling down or tucking my top into just irritate me. I like outfits that you put on and that’s it, there is no sorting or rearranging throughout the day other than the obvious bathroom trip. The other annoying thing with skirts or dresses is you must find tights, or the right socks to go with the shoes I need with them. I keep it simple with a pair of black trousers and a nice top with a cardigan.

Around this point, I will go and get another drink, or I get on with my hair. I don’t do anything special, usually, I just brush it, put it in a side plait and I am done. If it is a hair wash day then it is usually a bun. I get my shoes out, put my makeup away, and choose any Jewellery I am going to wear, I generally wear the same things.

Finally, I am ready I just need to get my bag ready, make sure I have all the keys I need and check I have my phone. I have a look to see if there is any rain planned and then head downstairs. I grab a jacket of some kind to fit the weather, grab food if I need to take any with me, or a drink.

This next step is new, I have only had to do this one since mid-March. If you know me, you will know that my parents and I got two Tortoises. We started with just one, but that is a long story, if you would like to know about it, I can arrange that. I make sure the lamps are on, that they have food and take any towels or blankets that we covered them with to keep the warm overnight (the towels only get added during the winter when it is cold).

Usually, it is 8:50 so it is time to leave if it is not, I take a seat on the couch and make sure I haven’t forgotten anything.

And that, ladies, and gentlemen is my morning routine. Let me know if anything is like yours or if I have given you any new ideas.
