537 My Evening Routine

I have a couple of routines I do depend on where I am, and what day it is. I stay at my Grandparent’s house at least one night a week which changes my night routine, it is quicker when I am there.

I am going to write about the steps in my routine that do not change after I have done the usual get home from work, dinner and any errands depending on the day I either do a bit of writing, tidying, or find something I should be doing. I aim to get into bed between 11 and midnight, if I am not due at work, I might stay up a bit later.

When writing, I currently work in my bedroom which is possibly the worst place to work because your brain associates your room with work instead of relaxing and sleeping. This can make it harder to get a good night’s sleep. When I am at my Grandparent’s house, I can do my writing in another room and keep the room I sleep in, just a room I sleep in. However, I attempt to combat this by putting all the bits I need to sort out on my bed. As I do them, I put them away slowly clearing the bed and clearing my mind (hopefully) ready for sleep. Theoretically, this gives a good sense of productivity and should make it easier for you to get to sleep. It doesn’t have a 100% success rate but it’s my only option, so I make it work.

Anything that is left on my bed when I decide it is time to settle. I put it away (tip, if there is something you need to clean or tidy, place it on your bed that way you must do it before you go to bed as you won’t be able to get into bed without completing that task). You do have to get yourself to complete the task instead of just moving it to the floor though.

I like to go to sleep in a relatively tidy room, it doesn’t have to be spotless, but I don’t like just shoving everything on the floor and going to bed. I like to wake up and not have to move things out the way while I get ready or must climb things, in the winter months when it is dark it is also handy to not have obstacles in the way.

I try to take cups and plates downstairs before I go to sleep but it isn’t the end of the world if I don’t, I will just place them on my side to go down in the morning with me. Once that is done, I go and wash my face if you do not do this step, I highly recommend adding it into your routine. It is all good to do your skincare but if you don’t wash your face first you are casing any dirt, dust, or oil into your skin for the night which makes skincare redundant don’t you think? Washing your face first leaves you with a blank clean canvas. You might also find better results in your skincare by doing this. Once washing, if I can be bothered and if I have time, I will pop a mask on, I don’t have just one mask though, so I grab one from my current collection and go from there.

Right now, I am using a range of skincare items. In the evenings I have usually already taken my makeup (it goes as soon as I finish work), I have been using the Clinique Cleansing Balm to remove my makeup. The first item I use is the Garnier Micellar Water for Combination Skin with a large cotton pad. It is £4.99 from Superdrug. I will leave links to all the products I use at the bottom of this post. Next, is a toner to close the pores we just opened. I am not picky about this; I use whichever one is on offer when I need to buy a new one. If you know of a good one, please do let me know. The one I am using at the minute is the Simple Kind to Skin Soother Facial Toner which is £3.49 in Superdrug.

I will occasionally put on some eye cream, but I haven’t found one that I love so I don’t apply it religiously. The one I am using now is the Origins Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff which is £21 from Boots, John Lewis or online. The last item I apply is my night cream, the one I am using is Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream.

At this point, I will get into bed clothes if I haven’t earlier and brush my teeth. I am using the Oral B Glamorous White toothpaste and I am not sure what brand my toothbrush is.

Lastly, I make sure my alarm is set, put my phone on a charge if it needs it and I am ready to go to bed. Oh, I also take my hair down if it is up.
