Okay, I am not a huge fan of horses in general, but you must watch this movie. It is such a lovely concept and I love how they share Amberley’s story, but she is a bit part of it and from what I can tell they keep true to her story for the most part. It is always hard when something is taken away from you and I think anyone who gets injured has that moment of asking themselves why and wishing they did something different to avoid getting injured.
I like that this story is portrayed as gut-wrenching where it is meant to be, but it isn’t a sob story, and it doesn’t glamorise her injury. I think it could have highlighted a few more activities that an injured person would need to adjust, you never really see Amberley transferring in the movie apart from being lifted on her horse or once when she gets in her new truck.
Other than a few minor things that were shown I thought overall it was an amazing portrayal of her story. It highlights that you can get through anything without any amazing miracles and amazing technology, it showed all you must do is want it and work around it. There are no silver platters given in this movie. It was relatable, it showed Amberley getting upset because who wouldn’t when her entire life has changed, I didn’t catch myself feeling sorry for her, who thinking about the inspiration and making a big deal out of her achievements.
It shows a beautiful story of a young girl working out how to live with what she’s got. I do believe Power (the horse) was Amberley’s horse in real life which is cool. After watching this movie, I went to YouTube and found myself following and reading about Amberley in real life. Did you know she did a YouTube series called Wheelchair Wednesdays where she shares how she does everyday activities? I also heard that Amberley did all her stunts in the movie and coming from someone who has never really been near a horse I have a new appreciation of the animal. They are such clever animals, and they have such a special bond with their riders.
I highly recommend checking this one out on Netflix, I would love the opportunity to see Amberley on her horse in person because that woman can ride, and she has such a handsome horse.
