Are you getting ready to order your provisional license? Do you need a new passport? Today I am going to tell you the tips and tricks I use when taking a new photo for any form of ID, you must keep them for a while, so it sucks if it looks rubbish.
So, shall we get on with the tips?
Firstly, you want to highlight any features you like on your face but not excessively. It’s a photo you are going to need for at least 5 years, so you should look halfway decent don’t you think? But you don’t want to look over the top. You want to draw attention to a certain feature without altering your appearance so much you won’t be recognised without makeup on. Remember the photo has the purpose of proving your identity. If you like your eyes, be sure to give them a little drama but keep it tasteful, get rid of the fake eyelashes, and just do a subtle but appealing day look.
Next, you going to want a little bit of contour, it is likely the photo is going to be black so a little definition will go a long way. You don’t need to go a full party style contouring, but just a little to flatter you in the photos. A full face of makeup doesn’t have to change your appearance completely.
Avoid nude lipsticks, you may be aware that passport photos and black and white, using a nude is going to wash your lips out. On the other hand, you don’t want something too out there, just dark enough that it will show your lips. This will help you look semi-alive in your photos, particularly the ones that are black and white.
Aim for a matte finish. Shiny never looks good in a photo so when you want to look at your best aim for a matte finish. The matte finish will also last a bit longer, so you aren’t wasting a full face of makeup just to have a picture taken. You can still go out for dinner or lunch on the same day which is a bonus. I hate having to touch up makeup or redo it throughout the day you’ll rarely catch me carrying makeup to touch up throughout the day.
I would also avoid plain black or white clothes, try something colourful or patterned so you can see the clothes in the photo. Nothing worse than looking like you have no clothes on.
If you have time, try to wash, and style your hair, or style it in a nice bun framing your face with a few loose bits at the front.
That concludes the end of my tips for taking a passport or driving license photo. Let me know if you have any because I could use a little help myself. This is a safe environment where we can, we’ve got to help each other. Also, let me know if you used any of the above tips, I’d like to know when my advice becomes less useless.
