I have been thinking about this post for a while because I wanted to share my love of animals if I could, I’d have a zoo. I pretty much love any animal or mammal, I’m not crazy about bugs and insects, for some reason they just make me cringe. I’m fine until they come near me, or buzzing gets my heart pumping and daddy longlegs seem to fly towards your face as quickly as possible so I avoid them when I can.
My love for animals became more apparent as I grew older, once I had the chance to look at or see the different animals you can find on this planet. Even some of the names are amusing. Over time watching various programs I always seem hooked on the ones involving animals. I think it is interesting how each one of them has different features allowing them to live and continue living without being caught by their predators.
Anyway, moving on to my pets as I guess you clicked on this post to find out what pets I have right and not find out about my interest in animals. Yeah, in that case, I suppose I better tell you about them.
My Current Pets
My cat, his name is Tilly. He was originally a family cat. As I have grown up Tilly has become more mine as he follows me like a shadow, and I pay for his food etc. He comes with a very interesting story which if you are interested, I will go into more detail later. Our tortoises are newish to the family home and their names are Olive and Willow, we have had them since March 2018. Shall I tell you a little bit more about them now?
My Cat Tilly
My cat (Tilly), yes, his name is Tilly, if you want to know why you will have to stay tuned for his life story which is going to follow. I am going to tell you a little bit about him to give you a few hints but keep you guessing until his story makes it to a post. He is now 10-year-old which is a little over middle-aged for a cat. His colouring is mostly white with a large patch on his head and back being a tabby. He has a small scar on his nose, a wonky paw, and a metal plate on his leg. If you would like to know the stories behind the scar and the metal plate, then keep an eye out.
Our Tortoises – Olive and Willow
My tortoises (they are family pets really, but they will be mine eventually), are two Horsfield Tortoises which means they won’t get gigantic, they will grow to be about 8 inches. As they are new, they don’t have too many stories. Olive has a significant one, but they are small otherwise. I want to share this with a warning, they are cheap to feed and look after but be prepared to spend on the setup and maintenance of their habitat because that part is not cheap. Olive is a little over two years old now and willow is one. They don’t have an exact birthdate, they are given a month, for example, December 2016 is Olive’s birth month. Again, if you are interested in finding out more, stay tuned for their posts.
Pets I had growing up
Now, shall we get on to the pets I have had in the past? If you are not interested now is the time to stop reading but if you would like to know, grab a snack and carry on reading.
In my years so far, I have had my fair share of pets, many fish (only named the one that lived the longest as it was hard to keep track with them all being goldfish, his name was Fred), 1 cat (the only Scrappy), 1 rabbit (the amazing Ronnie), 3 hamsters (Nibbles, Gucci, and Cookie), and Sea Monkeys. I am going to keep their descriptions brief.
Cat - Scrappy
Amazing, fluffy, adorable cat. He was tabby with a white stomach. I was born into a family that already had him, so he was older than me. I don’t remember much from when he was a lot younger, I know he used to sleep in the Rabbit hutch, in puzzles, in boxes, on my best etc. He was one of the softest cats I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. A full post will follow on this amazing boy.
Rabbit - Ronnie
Was a dwarf rabbit, he was multicoloured (I think he was a tricolour but don’t quote me). When he was a baby rabbit he lived inside and when he got old enough, he had a playpen and a hutch outside. He wasn’t a very playful rabbit, he liked to be stroked but he wouldn’t let anyone pick him up etc. In the end, we thought he would be happier with a family friend who had other rabbits and she allowed them to have the full garden to run around. The only reason we didn’t let him have the entire garden is that the few times we did he got out of our garden, and he kept finding new ways to get out. He later died from cancer.
Hamster - Nibbles
This was my sister’s hamster, a cute little guy, well for a hamster he was big. He lived for four years. I don’t remember a lot from his time because I was quite young, he would sit and watch TV with my parents at night. He liked all the treats; he even had a bit of cake now and then.
Hamster - Gucci
Now this little one, was cute and had a very interesting almost a grey metal colour to her. She was a cute pet, but she tended to bite so we didn’t get her out very often. She was more of my mum’s pet. As I talk about this, I want another hamster, but I can’t while I have a cat that predominantly stays in my room.
Hamster - Cookie
This was my pet; it was a tiny Russian hamster with bright red eyes, so everyone didn’t like the look of him. I thought he was quite cute because he was tiny. The little bugger was fast though, I was always a little scared to get him out because I didn’t want to lose him.
Pets I have been an Aunty to
Now, there have been other pets that I have not owned but I have had a hand in taking care of and spending time with them (I’ve been their Aunty). An Iguana which was my Dad’s called Iggy. My grandparents took over my uncle’s cat, Alice when he started working long hours. My sister has three huskies, Alaska, Corinna, and Shelby. Alaska and Corinna are sisters, and Shelby is Corinna’s puppy.
Iguana - Iggy
I don’t remember when he was bought so it must have been before I was born. I think my dad had him while he was still at home with his parents because Iggy never came to our house as it wasn’t big enough for him. He had his cage with his heat lamps etc. He mostly ate salad.
Now and then I would ask if I could open the cage, he had big claws and a huge tail. He was vicious but if he got angry and swished, his tail would hurt, thankfully he never did to my knowledge. I have begun to be interested in reptiles. I am not sure why it has happened recently.
Cat - Alice
Alice belonged to my uncle, year we went to Spain as a family so he brought Alice to my grandparents’ house where her neighbour would feed her and look after her while we were gone. When we got back, my uncle never took her home which sounds mean but he started a job that was long hours and shift work which meant that Alice would spend a lot of time by herself and not get the love and care deserved. Instead, she stayed with my Grandparents until she died of old age. She was a tabby cat, very nervous. When she first got to my Grandparent’s house, she wouldn’t let anyone touch her but slowly she warmed to everyone and towards the end, she would come and sit with everyone.
Doggies - Alaska, Corinna, and Shelby
I don’t know a lot about these animals as I don’t get to see them very often. I saw Alaska and Corinna a lot as puppies because I was quite close with my sister, didn’t have work etc so I would go and see them a lot. However, as we have grown, we don’t get to see them much anymore. Alaska has piercing blue eyes and wolf-like colours on her coat, Corinna is a beige and white huskie, also very beautiful. Shelby is a nutcase, very energetic and excitable.
Alaska has recently had surgery because she ate a sock which got stuck in her stomach. She was sadly very poorly but has now bounced back and is her old self again.
Corinna who has sadly died on the 23rd of March 2019. Poor girly is no longer with us.
Shelby has been hit by a car and almost lost her back leg but has bounced back completely. She is a little nervous while walking near cars but is otherwise okay.
