839 Big Fun Walk 2019

Yesterday, I took part in the North London Hospice Big Fun Walk. This would be my seventh year taking part in this walk. My involvement in the charity is bittersweet. I love the fact that I met these amazing people, and I had the opportunity to experience their care and devotion however, the reasons why I met these lovely people is the bitter part. Unfortunately, I lost my Grandad in 2012 and these amazing people helped us to care for him in his final days.

I have done a little bit of looking and I found out that the North London Hospice 1984, and one thing I didn’t know is that it is a registered Charity. I don’t know why I didn’t put those two things together but hay I know now.

According to the website, more than 1500 people took part in this walk this year, which means they have raised quite a bit before you even give your sponsorships in. The event consists of an 8.5-mile walk from East Finchley to Westminster Abbey. You walk through various parks, down by Oxford Street, past Buckingham Palace and then finish just across the road by Westminster Abbey.

We decided this year we are not going to rush but to take our time because there is no point in rushing. We put the entire day to the side for us to do this walk so no need to rush home. We stopped at Costa for a drink about a third of the way into the walk, then we ran into McDonald’s as we all needed the toilet. The next stop was the end of Westminster Abbey where they provide biscuits, sometimes there are fruit, hot drinks, and cold drinks.

Finally, we walked a little further to Waterloo so we could get something to eat, we ended up going to Nando’s which was nice.

On that note, I am going to leave it at that.

Please feel free to sign up next year if you would like to take part, I can’t guarantee it is lots of fun, but it goes to a good cause.
